Greetings Kiwanian,

June 15th, 2021 was the first anniversary of the passing of Past International President, Dr. John Button. "Dr. John", as he was so fondly called, was a dedicated physician, husband to Debbie, friend to many and a Kiwanis member whose leadership was a beacon of hope that included a positive attitude to grow Kiwanis spirit and membership. He is greatly missed.

The Kiwanis Foundation of Canada has approved a new scholarship fund for Canadian Key Club and Circle K members. It is gender specific, one male and one female, who have decided to go into the medical field after graduating high school. The scholarship program will be offered annually for a 10 year term (2022 to 2031).. The scholarship amount is $5,000 each.

An application form is being prepared and will be forwarded to all sponsoring clubs in Canada and Key Club administrators later in 2021. The applications need to be completed and received at our KFC Office not later then March 31, 2022. The completion date is firm with no exceptions.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 over the next 2 to 3 years to cover the cost of the scholarship.  Tax receipts will be provided to all donors.

The Kiwanis Foundation of Canada has agreed to match the scholarship fund (up to $5,000) to maintain $10,000 per year. This will cover the cost of the scholarship until all funds are raised to cover the total cost.

The current committee members who will be reviewing the Key Club applications are:
  • KFC PP & PLG Doug Button (Penticton, B.C.)
  • PP & Treasurer Debbie Button (Ridgetown, Ont.)
  • KFC IPP & Governor Designate Jim Scott (London, Ont.)
  • KFC PP & Secretary, PG Chuck McIlravey (Barrie, Ont.)
We ask that you, as one of our Kiwanis leaders, consider a donation to this dedicated scholarship fund, in the name of “Kiwanis International Past President Dr. John Button.”

All donations may be made online via CanadaHelps (www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/14078) or by cheque. Cheques can be forwarded to the Brantford address of the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration.

Sincerely,
